What kind of activities are there?
As part of the Collective Retreats experience, we introduce you to the best activities and sights Governors Island and New York City have to offer. As local New Yorkers, we’ve personally scouted out the best sites to see, the best tours to take, even the best sunset spots—and want to share it all with you. Because of that, you can be assured that we can design the perfect itinerary for you, no matter your style or preference.
At Collective Governors Island, many of our guests choose to take advantage of the rich history on the island and open park space, as well as the unique collection of events hosted at the retreat itself. Governors Island offers a wide array of history, recreation and acres of expansive park to wander with some of New York City’s best views. A hub for art and culture, the Island hosts a rich calendar of visual art, performances and educational exhibits, plus tours of the island’s historic National Monuments, giving visitors a glimpse into its important place in United States history. A car-free environment, the Island is best explored by foot or on a bicycle. Collective Governors Island will be launching a calendar of events and daily activities of its own, which will include live music, innovative dining, culinary classes, wellness retreats, thought leadership summits, morning yoga ritual (Lady Liberty Sun Salutation) and much more.
We’re also in close proximity to Manhattan. Some of our favorite activities in the city include taking a tour of the Statue of Liberty, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge and visiting the new One World Trade Center building. However, if you’re looking for a true city escape, you can stay on the island and enjoy many outdoor activities while taking in the New York Harbor skyline views. The island features many historical buildings, cultural events, an urban garden and even a field of hammocks perfect for napping or reading a book during the day.
