Collective Retreats is a venture-backed, fast growth hospitality company that concepts and operates asset-light, moveable hotels in premium, unique destinations.  Each of our  luxury retreats  is designed to create amazing guest experiences, with an emphasis on thoughtful design, inspiring decor, once-in-a-lifetime food, curated local activities, and luxurious amenities. We’re changing the travel industry by giving guests authentic, local experiences paired with service and luxury that you would find in a 5-star hotel – something we’re able to achieve through our unique locations and structures.

We are seeking an experienced Director of Construction to undertake all aspects of our construction needs for both new and existing retreat expansion, including identification of contractors and subcontractors, management of all Construction Managers (including build out of team), oversight over all construction crews on the ground, overall ownership of all construction budgets, and securing of build and related permits.

The ideal candidate is highly analytical and experienced in construction project management, specifically in the type of builds we are conducting.  S/he has excellent project management skills and is results oriented, highly organized and dependable, approachable, self-motivated, and passionate about the work.  Ideally, s/he is also passionate about travel, experiences, and what we’re building.  S/he will be expected to work directly with the existing team in order to successfully accomplish his/her work efficiently and effectively, and to build out the construction team to meet company goals.

We are looking for an operator who is not afraid to a roll-up-his/her-sleeves and is focused on delivering measurable results. You should have direct, hands-on experience in construction, construction project management, and related functions, such as budgeting and cost management.  Like our team, you should be customer- and brand-focused and naturally curious about new ways to help grow our new business and make our systems more efficient over time.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with our Property Partnerships and Operations team to bring the Collective Retreats vision to life in new markets and expand existing locations, including the creation of final, detailed site plans
  • Build and manage team of Construction Managers, based in Denver and operating nationally
  • Manage all aspects of the build process for new locations and existing location expansion
  • Create RFPs to generate options for, and select, general contractors and/or subcontractors
  • Manage all contractors against set timelines and budget, ensuring a high quality and safety standards
  • Deliver finished retreats on time and on budget to allow Marketing and Operations to hit retreat open dates 100% of the time

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Must have a passion for what we are building, the brand, and the guest experience
  • Proven experience as a Director of Construction or Regional Construction manager and 10-15 years of overall combined construction and management experience. Past experience managing and developing direct reports
  • Advanced degree in Engineering preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of build processes and procedures and experience with securing build and related permits
  • Track record of managing large and complex construction projects, with proven ability of delivering completed projects on time and budget, safely
  • Experience with creating and managing to budgets for each project, as well as the overall department
  • Hands on with managing construction contractors and crews onsite
  • Proven ability to work through ambiguity and get things done
  • Excellent people and relationship management skills, communication and presentation skills. Highly organized, exceptional attention to detail, strong and proven project management capabilities and ability to multi-task
  • Highly organized and self-motivated with a proven ability to multi-task across multiple complex projects
  • Past experience in a new business or startup is highly desired. Strong interest in building a company (including new processes and systems) from the ground up.  Comfortable managing through ambiguity and working with limited data
  • Able to work remotely when necessary and willingness to travel at least 50% of the time
  • Hard-working team player with a positive, can-do attitude. Flexible and willing to work long and sometimes erratic hours
